Mt. Washington Transfer Station Attendant Job Notice and Job Description

The Town of Mount Washington will have a vacancy for the job of Transfer Station Attendant, beginning in early January when our current attendant Alex Furcht heads off to UMass Amherst. Alex has done a great job and has provided us with a short list of the job’s responsibilities:

  • To have the containers emptied by JTC and Sons Inc. as needed;
  • To make sure access to the recycling dumpsters and trash compactor is clear;
  • Monitoring who is using the transfer station and making sure they are a resident or homeowner in the town of Mt. Washington;
  • Ensuring that those residents using the transfer station have paid the appropriate annual waste management fee;
  • Scheduling bulky waste dumpsters to be delivered twice a year in the spring and fall to Mount Washington;
  • Monitoring the bulky waste dumpsters to make sure only permitted items are left
  • Keeping the transfer station clear of debris and clutter;
  • Keeping the fly population contained as much as possible in the warmer months;
  • Sanding and shoveling snow from all transfer station areas during winter months to allow easy access;
  • Operating trash compactor as needed;
  • Checking that the waste containers are well maintained and in good working order.

In addition, the Transfer Station attendant must be able to work independently, possess good decision-making skills, and have the ability to communicate effectively to ensure everyone’s compliance with Transfer Station rules. Hours are Saturdays 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm (11 hours per week). Hourly wage is $15.00. Alex has agreed to provide a training session with the new attendant before he leaves his position after the holidays. Public Hearing and Planning Board Meeting Agenda

Public Hearing

The Mount Washington Planning Board will hold a public hearing pursuant to the provisions of MGL 40A Section 5 on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 6:45 p.m. at the Town Hall, 118 East St. Mount Washington MA, to provide interested parties with an opportunity to comment on proposed amendments to the Mount Washington Bylaws. The proposed amendments would add one associate member to the Planning Board and two associate members to the Zoning Board of Appeals. These changes would be added to Article III §215-6 (L) and Article IV §215-7 of the Zoning Bylaws. Copies of the proposed text may be inspected in the Town Clerk’s office at the Town Hall during office hours or on the Town web site. Any person wishing to be heard on these matters should appear at the time and place designated.
